February 20, 1967, Shortly after being shot in the head by a hired assassin at City Hall, Mayor James L Gordon was rushed to USS Repose, a US Navy Hospital ship where doctors tried but failed to save his life.
Mayor James L Gordon's remains were borne by a caisson reserved for Philippine presidents. The funeral procession was attended by high-ranking Philippine and American officials.
